ocr: The MDI instrument observes the line-of-sight motion of the Sun's photosphere and produces a velocily image or Dopplergram. The dominant feature is the solar rofation, which oppears as a shift from dark to light across the Sun's disk. The dark colors indicate motion toward the observer.
